RE: ACA 24 & SCA 21: UC Accountability and Transparancy, not Autonomy

Dear Senator:
   
I am writing to encourage you to support SCA 21 and ACA 24 and allow the bill to move from the Rules Committee. This is very important legislation and must be voted upon. For too many years now, the State Legislature has been frustrated by the University of California’s refusal to comply with recommendations from our state government regarding executive compensation and benefits, “golden parachutes”, health and safety of workers and students in research facilities, food safety lab closing, the state’s poison control hotline, and many other issues.

The University has proven time and again over the past decade or more that they are not willing to look out for the best interests of the students, staff or the state as a whole. UC management seems to be more interested in their own selfish interests than in keeping the University the gem that it is in education, public service, and world renowned research. I therefore recommend that you allow SCA 21 to move through committee as quickly as possible and whole-heartedly support it.
