Market Rate Research Tips for the HX Unit

  1. The best source for information is friends or family who work at other medical centers or hospitals. People you work with may also work at another medical centers and can get the information for you.

  2. Check the hospital or medical center’s web site. Their employment page may show salary ranges for their healthcare professions.

  3. Call the Human Resources office at the different medical centers and ask what they pay. Or, act as if you are applying for a job.

  4. Web sites that list salary comparisons:
  5. Check with the union that is representing the workers in your job title.Their web site will often list wage scales.

  6. Professional associations often publish wage surveys. For example, both Physician Assistants and Genetic Counselors have associations that produce yearly market salary surveys. Professional association newsletters may also

  7. Career newsletters and trade journals may also list market salary rates.

  8. Newspaper ads, especially special job fair editions, may include your job title.

  9. Check the other UC Medical Centers, compare yourselves to them if needed.

  10. Check government web sites, such as city, county and public health departments.  They may have information you can use.
