Millionaires’ Tax Initiative
Real budget solutions for UC and the rest of the public sector in California depend on the wealthy and corporations paying adequate taxes. UPTE has joined community groups and other unions to support a millionaire’s tax initiative. This tax will raise $6 billion annually from those who make more than $1 million a year. These are the top 1/3 of the top 1%, the westhiest of the wealthy.
Millionaires make their fortunes because the state educates workers, the state builds roads, hospitals and other infrastructure, and the state provides the critical social services our families need so we can be productive working at their companies.
Join us in collecting nearly a million signatures to get this initiative on the November 2012 ballot. Once the initiative is on the ballot, we will need to ask our members, families and friends so they vote in favor. This will be a tremendous task with a huge and lasting payoff.
