UCLA Employees Assemble & March
AGAIN in Protest over
Proposed Furloughs
& Salary Cuts!
Dear UPTE
Employees,
Here is a report on the
mobilizing event that the union coalition held at NPI and at the UCLA
Medical Center on
July 15 before the UC Regents voted to accept UC President Yudof's
power grab to impliment unecessary furloughs and salary cuts. We
had well over 500
union members turnout for the 90 minute event including marching with pickets
by the building's entrances.
We had media coverage from KNX radio, LA18 television, the Daily Bruin, the Los Angeles Daily
News and the Los Angeles
Times. The L.A. Times' article is here:
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-uc16-2009jul16,0,2645355.story
We know
the action sent the
message to UC that UCLA's union-represented employees will not accept
any furloughs or salary cuts and UPTE will continue fighting as long
and hard as our brothers and sisters in the other UC Unions who are
threatened as well!
Below
are some pictures from the event. Thank you to all who
participated.
