Contracts covering over 8,000 Professional and Technical Staff at the University of California expire on September 30, 2004. UC s arrogance in stating at the bargaining table "while we have the money for staff raises, you are not a priority" precipitated the action of bargaining without a contract. The no strike clause is lifted when these contracts expire.

Join us on September 29, 2004 at 12 Noon in front of the west entrance to Murphy Hall at UCLA to March up to the Chancellor's Office and deliver our written messages demanding fair treatment by UC.

LET'S ASK UCLA CHANCELLOR CARNESALE THE $200,000 DOLLAR QUESTION?

Why does Sharon Hayden, Lead Bargainer for UC Office of the President state "we need to reward, recruit and retain UC Executives by offering them large increases, on top of their $200,000 plus salaries;" but when it comes to staff, Sharon Hayden and UCOP state that "while we have the money for staff raises, you are not a priority."

It makes one angry when staff parking rates climb, our health coverage costs and co-payments increase, the cost of living, especially housing, moves up and UC offers its employees zero increases for the next 2 years.

UC s Office of the President protects UC Executives, but who protects UC employees? UPTE/CWA Local 9119 does, by exposing the hypocrisy and double standards exhibited by the UC Office of the President.

Psychic energy does not pay the bills nor stop the large turnover rate among professional and technical staff.

We demand respect, raises and that UC be held accountable to paying its staff a living wage.

Join us and deliver a message to Chancellor Carnesale, on September 29, 2004 in front of the west entrance to Murphy Hall 12 Noon to 1 p.m. We will be there to demonstrate in graphic terms our anger at this unfair distribution of UC resources given the fact that the money is there!

The chancellor's office is located at 2147 Murphy Hall, UPTE will be there at 12:30 p.m. on September 29, 2004.
